Series Overview

Strange to imagine, is that our lives are finite, when all we've ever known is to live...

'Time Has Wings,' (a variation of the saying 'time flies'), is a body of work that focuses on what is of deep value to us in life.

Handmade sculptures and natural materials (most of which were foraged), form the aesthetic foundations of the series. Every element was hand arranged by the artist on set. Each concept was crafted to share a message, took weeks to complete and was created with love for detail. Layered symbolism allows each piece to share it's story, with many of the artworks containing hidden elements that await discovery.

The 'wings of time' are represented in each artwork by some form of moth. Short-lived, they represent reaching fullness of potential and maturity. Additionally, moths orient themselves by the source of light in the darkness, symbolising the pursuit of illumination and good.

Presenting topics such as love, identity, legacy and hope, 'Time Has Wings' invites us to examine our priorities and refocus on what is paramount—with the time we have.

'Those We Love,' 2024

Beneath the surface of mushrooms, lies a vast root network. Microscopic 'mycelium' form an essential connection to surrounding plant life, allowing the exchange of life-giving nutrients. All that happens unseen, is revealed in the growth on the surface.

Much like mushrooms, the connections we make are vital to our development. As we share with one another, we all grow.

We develop in likeness to those we surround ourselves with and especially to those we love. They are the unseen network that sustains us.

'Formation,' 2024

The formation of our identity, may be likened to the shaping of clay. Raw and unformed, pure and with possibilities as broad as the imagination, clay represents potential. Inherently within us, it takes time and work to reveal.

Individually hand sculpted, the leaves surrounding the subject are Acanthis, symbolising rebirth into who we truly are. Split gill mushrooms represent our transformation.

All connected to the earth, each element alludes to the full cycle of our lives. As we are formed from and returned to the ground, we hope to have found our true identity in the time between.

'Unearthing Purpose,' 2024

As with the shaping of clay, the formation of our identity unearths our purpose.

Individually hand sculpted Acanthus leaves, represent rebirth into who we truly are. Split gill mushrooms symbolise the transformation we undergo, as we gain vision for our lives.

Together, these ground elements allude to the full cycle of life, as we are formed from and returned to the earth. In knowing who we are, we are enabled to pursue purpose in the time we have between.

'Pupae,' 2025 (New Release)

What is love?

The online definition of a 'pupa,' is the life stage of some insects, undergoing transformation between immature and mature stages.

We undergo so many transformations as people. It's a commonly held belief these days that we change so much in our lifetimes, that we might just change ourselves out of our relationships. But what if we give up too easy? What if we can undergo transformations together—allowing for one another, making it not all about ourselves as individuals, but about the best for the other?

I think that's love. Sometimes it's painful and uncomfortable and we can only hope to emerge together intact.

'Shelter,' 2024

A place of love in which to develop securely, enables us to 'take flight,' meeting our highest potential.

Foraged roots form the base of the nest, representing our beginnings and foundations. Seedheads symbolise the hidden potential we all contain. A communal bird, the Starling flies in beautiful unison with others, reminding us of the safety found in harmonious relationship.

While we do not control where we begin, we may find ourselves shelter and be it for others.

A safe place in which to develop, enables us to 'take flight,' meeting our highest potential.

Starlings are both highly adaptable and communal, reminding us of our own abilities to shift and connect and build for ourselves a place we can call home.

As we return to the earth, we may wonder what beyond our body remains.

Hand sculpted bones represent our core and what lasts. The rib cage guards our hearts, the legacy of which endures. Love like water, generates life where it flows, bringing forth new potential.

In facing the finite nature of life, we may wonder what of us will endure.

The hand sculpted form of the voicebox takes on the structure of bones, representing the remains of our words.

They flow out from us, as with water into it's surroundings. What we have spoken, carries potential to be life giving beyond us.

'Wonder for Nature,' 2024

Nature could be seen as strange, if not familiar.

By hand combining various species of insects and plants, something new emerges from what already exists. Attention is given to each element again, inspiring new wonder for nature in all it's fascinating detail.

Much as with these hybrids, the rearrangement of our priorities and thoughts renews our vision.

To see anew and adjust our perspective, allows us to begin again.

Various species of existing insects and plants, recombine to form a new hybrid. Each detail may be viewed with renewed intention, much as when we reorder our thoughts and priorities.

'Vision Beyond Sight,' 2024

The presence of hope within the depths of the unknown, keeps us afloat. In mystery, lies great potential to broaden our understanding.

Water represents these depths and seedheads the potential. Hand made from natural materials, the sculpture displays matter rearranged, in a way that reflects the patterns of nature. The veins of leaves become that of a moth, feathers are antennae. Tiny buds form the feet and an opening pinecone the body.

The transferability of form suggests a pattern of design, that may cause us to question our origins and reflect on life's great mysteries.
